Vavi In Sex Scandal

The general secretary of Cosatu: zwelinzima vavi
The general secretary of cosatu Zwelinzima Vavi is being accused of raping one of cosatu’s employees who happened to be married. Vavi is a brave man because he managed to stand up and tell the truth. He apologized to cosatu and South Africa as whole for his action and admitted to have affair with the married woman but he didn’t rape her, he had consensual sex with her as they were having an affair. He don’t blame anyone for bad publicity but blame himself for cheating on his wife and having an affair with his colleague.http://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-courts/vavi-says-sorry-for-sex-scandal-1.1556642
This incident brought bad publicity to the cosatu union, leading people into thinking whether to rely on them as South Africa leading union. the public look up to cosatu to solve worker's rights and set as an example to the small unions looking up to them. cosatu has taken action to place both the accusser and vavi on special leave so they can reach a conclusion without violeting any person's rights.

We all know that no one is perfect and we make mistakes, so he also made a mistake that anyone of us can make, what I like about him is that he is taking actions to prove his innocence. The accuser didn’t have a case because if she had one she wouldnt have withdrawn the charges against him and for the fact that she recorded him while having a conversation with her, it shows that it was something that she planned.  How long will women accuse men for something that they didn’t do?

  1. The Vavi saga is complex issue, only them know what went down. Maybe hes telling the truth and it was just normal sex and the woman didnt get what she wanted from the affair thats why she shouted rape or maybe it was rape i dont know.I just hope justice gets served and the matter shouldnt just dissappear because he has power. I believe in

    2. i agree with you when you say maybe she wanted to get something from him, but why didnt she think of something else? now she has destory the man reputation.justic will be serve power or no power.

  2. i personally think that they should both be dismissed from their work, what they did is unethical and they should be punished for it

    1. Both of them are being place on a sepecial leave so the party can get to the bottom of the matter. i believe that justic will be done and in future they will think of their action before they do anything.

    2. specail leave dont make a difference these days, many people who are in power abuse it just coz they will be placed on 'special' and then go back to work after few months as if nothing happened.

    3. so in other words you want them to be fired

  3. Well to be frankly if Vavi was wrong the girl would not have dropped the charges.

  4. According to my opinion, i don't think the way COSATU general secretary should have been suspended, because this whole thing is politically motivated. they just want to take him out, so that they can implement the E tolling without being oppossed by any person.

    1. You mean cosatu was not suppose to suspend? in other words COSATU is trying to fire him in syle. you can be right be right but i believe that they want to find the truth why the woman accuss him in the first place.

  5. This has brought bad publicity for the union, people should learn to love and respect themselves first before the public do, but what can I say nobody is perfect.

    1. no one is perfect but everyone must face the music of his or her action. if the party didnt take any action aganist the two colleague it was going to look like the union is taking sides.

  6. I Personally think that Vavi didn't rape her as she claims. She wanted something from him, which she ended up not getting it. So she decided to open a case of rape for vavi. This was all a setup for Vavi to get out of the Casatu.

  7. Well said this is just a disgrace to women who have been raped and the never took its course, yes Vavi was wrong but at the end of the day he is human and lets be honest how many CEO's are out there sleeping with their employees?difference is they not in a public eye so people must just let this go because he is suspended and his family has forgiven him.

    1. people except those who are in power to be perfect which is highly impossible because they are humans at the end of the day.we have to bear in mind that the ones we look on as our role model will disappoint us one way or other. for example we can look at the president Jacob Zuma, he was once accuss of raped but look at him now, he is ruling the country.

  8. The only problem is tht the world strategic posts are inthe hands of faminists! They tend to focus more on women rights than those of men. As a result, some women take advantage and misuse them!!!!!!

  9. guys let's be honest to our self! #Vavi didnt do anything wrong, his the man for God sake and considering the fact that he did not Rape the weoman the were inlove so i dnt think he should be crusefied for that,in short he confess that he did have sex with her, so i personal admired him for that Unlike our president abt his rape scandal

    1. two people where involve in this issue so i believe that both of them must face the music not one party because now is like Vavi is the only one who is wrong but they were two in the affair

  10. The law and the constitution has a very negative advantage with regards to males even in situations such as this where both parties are fully and equally responsible for the incident at hand. Why should it be so easy for ladies to scream rape whenever they feel like but such cries coming from a guy would fall on deaf ears and unsympathetic hearts? Surely the the root of the matter is in the constitution, and the SG is never going to get a fair opportunity to defend himself, not with women-biased courts we rely on

    1. True, if it was Vavi saying that the woman raped her. the public was going to laugh even the other union was not going to pay much attention because Vavi is a man but now that is a woman who made false accussion the world maust stop and solve this issue. our justic is nt fair whan is come to gender.

  11. The fact the woman withdrew the charges can only mean one thing; Vavi is innocent. Why else would a person press charges ?, more especially "rape charges" and withdraw them again? Its because she knew that the is no evidence to this charges and she might be the one who will end up in jail for accusing someone of rape.

    1. i agree with you and we women have this thing taht we can do abything because the law is in our side.

  12. it is indeed a complex issue..only vavi and the woman know what really happen..we are not sure whether the woman is innocent or she was really rape or she is just trying to get money out of vavi..to be honest everyone has motives especially where money is involved

  14. this ain't no accusation, because the dude agreed that he had consensual sex with the married woman. IF Vavi was a true man he wouldn't have done what he did, so he just a coward.

    1. i think it take a real man to admit his mistake, no one is prefect, we all make mistakes. Vavi is brave because he manage to say how sorry he is of what he did, so i think the woman have to do the same because if Vavi was wrong she was not going to withdraw the charges.

  15. Vavi's case is almost similar to the current president's case of sex/rape scandal. It saddens me to see that some women choose to cheat on their husbands by having affairs with thier colleagues and whatsoever. Then ultimately report it as rape to the public,I am not defending Vavi's actions ,however i do feel that women are loosing thier value in this society if we are going to put our marriages and families in the risk of having to deal with politics and media agendas. One would think that such scandals are very common in the political spectrum, however this could have happened to anywhere and to anyone, but that the power of politics and media took form in Vavi's case because He represents the South African public.

    1. i with you Basetane, i have been asking myself that what if Vavi was the CEO of Eskom was all this going to happen? we all know that there are people out there who dont respect their marriages and sleep with there bosses to get at the top positions, maybe this woman was also doing the samething. she wanted another position when she see that Vavi is not giving it to her decide to accuss him of rape. this a shame what woman are doing out there to get what they want. i wonder how she sleep at night knowing that she has destory other person life or reputation.

  16. I think the PR team that handled this matter did a very good job, even though this a very fragile domestic issue, Vavi had to come out and admit what he had done and apologize for his actions as well. This managed to switch a different light on Vavi as a person because before that he was being judged and viewed as a rapist

    1. he did admit his mistake and apologize but it look like the union find him wrong because they suspended him to get to the bottom of the matter as they say.

  17. well allow me to say vavi has shower mentality too,we can all tell where he got the influence from.it just bothers me to see women being rapped by these pervets and then they get away with it somehow and we as public must accept that all these women are wrong.no this world sux...

    1. i dont think Vavi is wrong becauase the woman has withdraw the charge. if real it was a rape i do believe that she was not going to drop the charges, she was going to leave the matter to the court.

  18. In my point of view, i am still a lil bit undecided about this issue but i thnk the media as a whole should go back to the basics and know what to tell the public after a thoroughly research because now we hearing alot of things at the same time which the first newspaper who got an exclusive about this issue didnt tell all this things we hearing, they only told that part that was going to increase their sales despite that they ruining families at the same time, breaking up marriages and dragging vavi's dignity down the drain and bear in mind this man is a father to his kids.!

    1. im with you in that one, the newspaper only care about selling the paper and increasing sales that all.

  19. This scandal just sounds way too familiar to what had previously happened with our president. The topic of concern is whether our media will now base its information or news on sex scandals that are regarding public officials when we actually have real issues that our country is facing. But going back to the scandal, I believe that we need to be honest with eachother and not do things that we will later regret or do things with the intention of hurting or even framing another individual-whether they agreed on it or not

  20. Well we"ll never know what actually happened. the woman might have been bribed to withdraw her case. Politicians have the power and resources you know. In this case we cant actually route for anyone cause this scandal is a bit familiar, and it keeps happening. It shows that our public figures are not perfect either.

    1. i believe you when you say that our public figures are not perfect but when is come to the part that the woman maybe she was bribed to withdraw the charge, i will like to disagree because no matter will buy away the pain of rape, she was have to stand for the other women who die in the silent of rape. vavi was not going to lie because the truth will always come out.

  21. this is not a big deal. if it is not rape then it is just sex. vavi is only guilty in his personal life which we do not need to know why he cheated. what matters is his ability to do his job, he has always been the guy to help resolve workers problems. what he does in private should not be any of our concern. people who judge are just looking for the bad in people and forget that all politicians are human. so, focus on his positive side which is working for the people.

  23. it is not like he is the first and last person to cheat on their patner, this issue is being blown out of proportion beacause he is a public figure but also as a public figure he should lead by example

    1. he is leading by example because he asked forgiveness. we must not look at the part that he cheating on his wife but the good things that he has done for the coutry that is all matter.

  25. Sleeping with someone is NEVER a mistake. He lacks respect for his wife and family. He cheated on his ex wife to be with the woman(his wife) that he's with now. He should just face whatever consequences there are like a man since he thought being unfaithful would make him a better man. Let him dance to his own music!

  26. There is no such thing as Vavi is man enough to admit his mistakes, no hard feeling hey, question here is, how long did it take him to realise that what he was doing was wrong? Doing it once is a mistake and more than that it’s an affair. The guy is apologising because he got caught, all along what he was doing was right, until he got caught and about the rape accusation, we won’t know, there are three stories here, Vavi's side of the story, the accuser’s side of the story and the true story.

    1. you know im laughing because he did agree that he was having an afair with the woman and he apologized because he disappointed many south african not only his family but the country as a whole. as the stories it is true they are the two people who know the truth which is him and the woman.

  31. We dont know exactly what happened between Vavi and the woman, i think this issue is given much attention because he is a public figure. The woman dropped the charges so he has nothing to be suspended for. It seems like the blame is all on him while they are both wrong.

  37. Personally I dont think Vavi owed South Africa an apology, extra marital affairs in politics are not new. I feel that this was made too big of an issue which was neccessary because like anyone who is employed the matter was suppose to be handled by Cosatu and not become headlines for two weeks.

  38. he can apologise but the question is"did he really mean it"? the statement he made on the media about protecting his character and that of his family was completely contracdicting his apologetic statements that he made before, so it is then time to face the consequencies of turning board rooms into sex rooms and hiring girl friends due ti sexual benefits and making women seem to be sexual posessions when they are desperately looking for employment
